There's a little nugget on page 331, where Johnson states that even when sermons are based on New Testament passages, they are not necessarily "apostolic." He defines that term with these four elements:I think it will be a goal for me to preach like that every chance I get behind a pulpit. I may have to read this book.
* Christ-centered
* attentive to redemptive history
* grace-driven
* missiologically articulated
I suspect that those four descriptors, taken together, make for about as perfect a definition of real preaching as one will ever find.
This blog compiles some notes and observations from one average guy's journey of life, faith and thought, along with some harvests from my reading (both on-line and in print). Learning to follow Jesus is a journey; come join me on the never-ending adventure!
